ImageSAN JOSE, CA - A new group of alumni at San Jose State recently helped bring about personnel changes at the school as a result of violations by SJSU officials of California State University (CSU) student and alumni rights guaranteed by U.S. and California law.

The California State University Alumni of Silicon Valley, a confederation of business school and other alumni from the oldest CSU campus in San Jose, asked top University officials for an investigation of SJSU treatment of San Jose students during the CSU Identity student initiative in March.  As a result, SJSU VP of Marketing Jennifer Cauble, who first tried to crush and then defeat the Initiative, lost her job about a month later.

At least two members of the CSU ASV contact CSU Chancellor Reed and SJSU President Kassing about the misconduct of Cauble and others during the student election.  Alumni-run websites like GoState.org and the Mission City Lantern also called for disciplinary action against Cauble and other SJSU officials, who attempted to deny students the right to vote on the Initiative.

SAN JOSE, CA -- The aftermath of the recent San Jose State Student Student Initiative to restore a California State University (CSU) identity to the campus has resulted in the removal of a key SJSU administrator who campaigned against Initiative.

CSU student and alumni activists filed grievances with several state agencies after the vote, seeking investigation of possible violations of federal and state educational and civil rights laws by SJSU Associate VP of Marketing Jennifer Cauble and other SJSU officials. About a month later, Cauble mysteriously departed her position with the school without comment from the University with regard to the reason for her departure.

The Spartan Daily mentioned Ms. Caubles departure briefly, but characteristicly neglected any further reporting on an important issue for the school the Spartan Daily claims to cover in its reporting.

San Jose State 1862 Seal
San Jose State's version of the Great Seal of California, showing its authentic 1862 year of establishment.
This article is the first in a series on California State University (CSU) law.
-----------------------------
SAN JOSE, CA -- San Jose State University's use of 1857 as its purported year of establishment and its celebration of 2007 as its so-called 150th anniversary contravenes California law as enacted by the California State Legislature, according to legal advocates for CSU students and alumni.

The Legislature created the California State Normal School, the institution that became both SJSU and the CSU system on May 2, 1862, a law which remains in effect to this day.  The San Jose campus recognized this date until about 1957, when a committee planning 1957 "cennential" celebration purported to change the school's time establishment to some unspecified date in 1857.  Historical documents indicate that the committee claimed it had the permission of the Legislature to make this change, but no evidence of this is cited.

The 1857 year refers to the year of establishment of a San Francisco evening high school class to train teachers.  According to historical accounts, the primary name of this high school class was the "San Francisco Normal School" but San Jose State supporters tend to refer to it as "Minns Evening Normal School."
