SAN JOSE, CA - A new group of alumni at San Jose State recently helped bring about personnel changes at the school as a result of violations by SJSU officials of California State University (CSU) student and alumni rights guaranteed by U.S. and California law.
The California State University Alumni of Silicon Valley, a confederation of business school and other alumni from the oldest CSU campus in San Jose, asked top University officials for an investigation of SJSU treatment of San Jose students during the CSU Identity student initiative in March. As a result, SJSU VP of Marketing Jennifer Cauble, who first tried to crush and then defeat the Initiative, lost her job about a month later.
At least two members of the CSU ASV contact CSU Chancellor Reed and SJSU President Kassing about the misconduct of Cauble and others during the student election. Alumni-run websites like GoState.org and the Mission City Lantern also called for disciplinary action against Cauble and other SJSU officials, who attempted to deny students the right to vote on the Initiative.
The student initiative sought to restore a California State University identity at "SJSU" for the benefit of students and alumni who wish to identify and market themselves using the CSU name.
The CSU Alumni of Silicon Valley protested the actions of Cauble and other SJSU administrators who first tried to derail the initiative by talking students out of it, and then spread disinformation in the media to defeat the student-sponsored measure. |
